Glasgow-based business Pest Solutions has attended Step into STEM events this autumn to raise awareness of exciting career opportunities for pest professionals.
Step into STEM Lanarkshire, run by New College Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire College, has been designed to inspire pupils to think creatively and solve problems.
Chris Cagienard, managing director of Pest Solutions, said: “The aim for us is telling people that they could do a science subject and have a rewarding hands-on career in the pest control industry.
“At these events, biotech companies may seem more credible, but we pay the same as they pay people in biotech companies in junior roles, so it’s comparable.”
Mr Cagienard added: “We’re not going to recruit any of these kids at this point, but it’s really to give them an idea of a career type they could get by studying biology, zoology or entomology.
“We’re connected with Glasgow University and University of the West of Scotland to recruit people from there. Even with their zoology degree courses, until we got involved with them, they weren’t signposting people towards pest control as a career.”
