British Pest Register CPD Scheme gains traction

The recently launched British Pest Register CPD scheme has more than 300 members and is gaining traction.

The CPD scheme is the brainchild of Sean Mooney, the owner of Kill Line Pest Control and Pest Software.

“This is the first CRRU-approved CPD scheme for 2026; in order to buy professional use for rodenticides next year you have to have a qualification, but you also have to have collected 20 CPD points in 2025, and three of those have to be the CRRU-approved.

“As soon as people have achieved 20 points and paid for their 2026 subscription, they can immediately get their certificate, so there will be no bottlenecking of certification,” he said.

“With your certificate, you’ll be able to get everything in order to make sure that you can continue to run your business correctly in 2026.”

Mr Mooney said that the British Pest Register will send out a quarterly email to let its members know how many points they have and how many they need to achieve the minimum standards to be able to buy professional-use rodenticides in 2026.

NPTA members can join the British Pest Register for £34 per year, instead of the usual £45.

Mr Mooney added: “Pest controllers often do training which is relevant to their jobs, but it is outside of pest control. For instance, health and safety training, working from heights and drain surveying.

“We wanted something that gives recognition for the training that pest controllers do to bring new skills into the industry. There is no cap on learning, and no cap on the number of points that you can get.”
