As usual there are a number of other events going on around PestTech. The PCN workshop (11.30 in the Kirkmichael Suite) always attracts a good crowd and whilst the topic for this year might sound a bit dry Risk Mitigation Measures: Will they change the way we work dont let that put you off.
The HSE stakeholder engagement (sorry about the jargon) which closes on 2 November, offers a number of options on how to cut the risks associated with the use of second generation anticoagulants. This is important stuff because, if the risks are not ‘mitigated’, then these products could be banned.
The format will be three short presentations from the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health’s National Pest Advisory Panel (NPAP) on their responses to the stakeholder engagement. This will be followed by a discussion from the floor.
Not wishing to pre-empt anything but maybe the question ought to be Risk Mitigation Measures: How can we make sure they change the way we work because if the industry sticks its head in the sand and does nothing to mitigate the risk the result could be catastrophic for public health. PWIPM gathering Later at 14.30, the Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM) gathering will also be in the Kirkmichael Suite. Guest speaker is Janet Dixon, described recently as ”Britain’s longest serving female pest controller or is she?” Janet, who has been working as a practical pest professional for just over 25 years says: “The biggest challenge over the years has been lone working, but this is not just limited to female pest controllers. You have got to be very, very careful as some of the places we go to are very isolated, and I’ve even been locked in places before. “Technology helps, and mobile phones have made a big difference. We have to have a lone working policy now and I ask to be escorted back to my van.” Professional men in pest management are reminded that they are welcome to join the meeting. |
