The National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) has launched a new corporate logo marking another step in what chairman, Adam Hawley, describes as the further professionalisation of the association. Sadly but, unsurprisingly, some folks have taken to social media to complain!
In many walks of life it’s true to say that you can’t please all of the people all of the time. This is particularly true for anyone involved in running a club or an association. Golf clubs are notorious for their ‘in-house’ politics but angling clubs, gardening groups and even church groups also suffer. As for trade associations they definitely can’t please all of the members all of the time. Despite announcing a long transition period – basically no-one is being obliged to change the logo until such time as they would have replaced a van or re-printed their stationery – comments about the cost of having to change have been flying around the internet. It was ever thus – indeed it’s not that long since the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) made changes to its logo and faced a similar tirade. The new NPTA logo is very different to the old so there will come a time, and it won’t be all that far away, when using old stationery will mark you out as ‘behind the times’, especially if you are tendering for new work. However these days many busienssess effectively print their own stationery and changing logos on electronic forms and letterheads isn’t difficult, nor costly. The same goes for websites. Vans, of course, are a bigger issue but they can wait. |

The new logo comes with a catchy strapline ‘tomorrow’s association for today’s technicians’. There’s also a version with the full association description and separate versions for ‘members’ and ‘accredited members’.
